Foods That Burn Fat: Eat Fats for Healthy Weight Loss
To call fats foods that burn fat seems like a misnomer, but some, though not all of them, do. Although fat has got a bad reputation over the past few years, it is a macro-nutrient that is as important as the other macro-nutrients (protein and carbohydrate) in contributing to healthy weight loss. About 20 percent of calories in the daily diet should come from fats – this equates to about 70 grams of fat for the average-sized adult.

Besides being a fat burning food, fats have a number of other important functions in the body, including absorption of certain vitamins and creation of some hormones. Fat helps make you feel full and keeps you feeling full for longer, thus helping to prevent over-eating.
Fats and oils that are damaged have transformed molecules that are toxic to the body. Oils especially are very susceptible to damage from heat, light, and air and may absorb plastic from plastic bottles, so should always be cold pressed, unrefined and bought in dark green or brown glass bottles. Care should be taken in storing them correctly, away from light and in a cool place.
Flaxseed Oil
Flaxseed oil provides a number of health benefits besides healthy weight loss. A powerful source of omega-3 essential fatty acids, flax seed oil promotes heart health and helps burn fat by speeding up the metabolic rate. Highly perishable, flax seed oil should never be heated or used in cooking and baking.
Use two tablespoons a day in salad dressings, smoothies. added to yogurt and fruit, or drizzled over steamed vegetables. Buy refrigerated flax seed oil in opaque bottles, and keep refrigerated at home for 6-8 weeks. Any oil remaining after that time should be discarded.
Olive Oil
Olive oil is a monosaturated fat that helps burn fat by stabilizing blood sugar, detoxifying the body and reducing cholesterol levels. Store olive oil in its dark glass bottle in a cool dark place with the cap tightly on, and use within two months. Extra-virgin olive oil is less acid than lower grades of olive oil, so has a longer shelf life.
Use olive oil for sauteing, baking or in a salad dressing, but not for frying.. It can also be used in a marinade for meat or fish, drizzled over cooked vegetables, or as a dip for bread to replace butter.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a saturated fat made up of medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) that, unlike the long-chain saturated fat from animals, are burned rather than being stored in the tissues. Long-chain saturated fats cause weight gain, MCFAs are food that burns fat so promote healthy weight loss. They also prevent heart disease. Unlike most oils, coconut oil can be safely used for frying without forming unhealthy transformed fats.
